Honours Track · Final Year

Lead projects. Mentor juniors. Build the senior pipeline.

Twenty weeks of leadership, technical depth, and the ambiguous, hard problems that separate senior engineers from everyone else.

Apply to Honours

Who it's for

You're an honours or final-year student who has already shipped real software, owned features in teams, and feels comfortable in a codebase. You're not here to learn React — you're here to learn how to lead a team that ships React, make architectural decisions you'll have to live with, and mentor the next cohort.

What changes at this level

At the Honours level, code is no longer the bottleneck. Decisions are. Should we rewrite or refactor? Where do we draw the abstraction line? How do we onboard the next person without re-explaining the whole system? We focus the programme on the meta-skills senior engineers practise every day.

Architecture & trade-offs

Make decisions with incomplete information. Defend them. Reverse them gracefully when reality disagrees.

Technical leadership

Run design reviews. Unblock teammates. Communicate scope, risk, and timeline without sandbagging.

Mentoring craft

Hold the high bar without making people feel small. Give feedback that compounds.

System design

Caching, queues, eventual consistency, and the failure modes that bite when traffic 10×s overnight.

Cross-functional fluency

Work with product, design, and stakeholders without translating yourself into mush.

Hiring & evaluating

Help interview the next cohort. Practise the other side of the table.

The 20-week structure

Weeks 1–4 · Calibration

Choose your project: lead a Foundation team, lead a Professional feature group, or partner with a company on a real engineering problem of meaningful scope.

Weeks 5–12 · Lead the work

You're the technical owner. You set the direction, run the reviews, unblock teammates, and report progress to the senior advisors weekly. We will not rescue you on Tuesday from decisions you should have made on Monday.

Weeks 13–18 · Depth specialisation

Pick a hard problem at the edge of your comfort: distributed systems, security, performance, infrastructure, or developer tooling. Ship something measurable in production.

Weeks 19–20 · Capstone

Present your work to a panel of CTOs and senior engineers. Defend your decisions. The bar is "I would hire this person as a mid-level engineer tomorrow."

Honours mentorship

At this level your mentor is a staff or principal engineer from a partner company — someone who has shipped large systems, run teams, and made enough mistakes to be useful about it. AI mentors are available for code-level questions, but the human conversations get harder and more interesting at this stage.

What you walk away with

  • A capstone project that demonstrably moves a real metric in production
  • Documented experience leading a small engineering team
  • A direct hiring path into senior-aligned graduate roles at our partner companies
  • A staff-engineer reference letter
  • An invitation to return as a TechTalk mentor in your first job

Eligibility & application

Honours Track requires either Professional Track completion or equivalent shipped engineering experience. The application includes a short technical interview and a leadership scenario discussion — there's no take-home coding assignment.
